Todd Ellis: Cram the negative attitude

Todd goes off on 107.5 The Game in regards to all the whining, complaining, negative attitudes, etc.

You can listen to the whole thing here, but, this is the part I liked:

Maybe it’s a good time to raise this very quickly, but I think that’s a common, stereotypical, negative thread that gets thrown out there by whomever, that we pick up and we take it as our negative mantra, and I will tell you as a fan base, as a university and as a state, for that matter, we have got to have this … we’ve got to stop this self-defeating prophecy that we have.

We talk ourselves into late-year slides, we talk ourselves into "here we got again," "same ol’ same ol’," the chicken curse, all this stuff.

Now does it impact it, you’re darn right it impacts it. Why? Listen to Akeem. What other player would ever have to say, "y’all don’t believe in us, but we believe in ourselves"?

Morris says — You folks are nuts

Yes, I dissected one of Ron Morris’ less-than-spectacular columns a while back, but, I’m willing to give credit when and where it’s due.

Today’s column is just one of those times. Well put.

More on WSOC

Shelley Smith is named SEC coach of the year. After a great season, it’s a well-deserved honor. Congrats, coach, now why don’t you go rustle up one of those NCAA titles! :-)

Culliver out for Arkansas

Spurrier just announced that Chris Culliver will not play against Arkansas during his weekly presser.

He’s citing the shoulder injury/problems that apparently manifested itself during the UT game.

A scenario for Gamecock fans

In the category of Stating the Obvious: Gamecock fans are angry after this weekend.

There are some that claim to not see any sort of progress in the program. Of course, disagree with that opinion and they will be quick to qualify their … opinion … by playing the ultimate Gamecock fan card:

“I sat through 1-21.”

If you’re like me and you were unfortunately there to witness most, if not all, of that horrendous two seasons, why in the world are you ready to jump off the bandwagon now?

Here are a few, oh let’s say hypothetical scenarios. See which ones you would choose: Continue reading ‘A scenario for Gamecock fans’

On defeat and dying

I’m far from a licensed therapist, but, if you’re anything like me, you’re taking last night’s defeat pretty hard. So, it’s helpful to realize that you go through the five stages of grief with every loss. Check the stages after the jump and see where you fall in the spectrum:

WSOC — it’s not just a Charlotte radio station

Never let it be said that I’m not totally sold out on the cause of Gamecock athletics as a whole.

Tomorrow night, our women’s soccer team, which has been tearing it up this season, faces Florida in Gainesville. In the balance is the SEC Championship.

I’m not going to even begin to try and make up any sort of analysis about the game, since I know nothing at best about soccer. I just know that any team that is contending for the SEC crown deserves support.

Students-only basketball practice

Well, from all indications, tonight’s students-only practice was a success. Apparently about 500 or so students showed up, many breaking out the Garnet Army gear.

I have to commend Coach Horn for doing all he has done since coming on board to try and get the students fired up about basketball. Of course, with last year’s success, I think it’s an easier sell going forward.

I’m a big Horn fan and I hope he hangs around for a long time.

The one bit of disappointing news is that Devan Downey didn’t participate, as he’s apparently under the weather with the all-encompassing “flu-like symptoms.”

Apparently Ramon Galloway showed out. All indications are that the kid is a “baller,” even, from my understanding showing up the SEC’s SECOND BEST ineligible PLAYER in a high-school matchup.

Of course, the real biggest news … the new threads were rolled out … check them after the jump.

Not to put too much pressure on one guy, but, for us to win … this guy is going to have to have a MONSTER game.
